Middlesbrough
Football Club has many supporters in South East Asia and these
followers have a good footballing pedigree in the region. In 1993 a
Middlesbrough Asia Football Team was formed out of the Hong Kong
Football Club and entered the prestige Manila Nomads 6-a-side
International football Tournament in the Philippines, the team won the
main tournament at the first attempt and set the tone for the future of
Middlesbrough FC in Asia.
The teams were organized and managed by Alan Liddiard and Peter Schott
(two cracking players) and their success over a period of 5 years is
still unrivalled in the history of the tournament, the team won the
main tournament again in 1994, was narrowly beaten in the final of
1995, won the main tournament for the third time in 1996 and won the
Plate final in 1997.
This historical section of the Middlesbrough FC Supporters Club website
is dedicated to all the players and supporters who contributed to the
above achievements during the years 1993 to 1997, please use the forum
link to comment and keep in touch with all the dispersed
players…there are still several unnamed players in the 5
team
photos, if you can recognize any of these guys please update us.
Alan 'Liddsy' Liddiard and Peter 'Shooter' Schott departed Hong Kong
after the above period, as did many of the ex-pat players; however it
is good to know that the Middlesbrough FC legacy lives on at the HKFC
and the Boro team still participates in the annual Manila 6s
International Football Tournament…are they as successful
these
days? Perhaps your input in the forum will shed some light, C'mon Boro
